Recreation Murdoch Style
For a small town on the Gaspe coast, I have to say we were pretty spoiled as far a recreational activities went! Just the location alone provided us with hunting, fishing, a mountain where sking was as good as it could get. York lake also provided us with a great little resort and eventually a nice little 9 hole golf course! The mine provided an arena for hockey, curling, bowling, swimming pool in the summer not to mention an indoor tennis court and badminton courts when ice surface not used. Hiking ,cross country sking, snow mobiling and offroading we had it! Also we had the legion where one could play pool, shuffle board and of course the dart league.
Growing up in Murdoch I have to say that hockey was the most popular sporting event, altough there was some good competive softball played back in the day, hockey was more popular and involved almost the whole Gaspe coast, although I am sure a few hard core skiers might not agree!
